Strengthening ESG Environmental Cooperation with the Local Community
Raising Employee Awareness of Ecosystem Protection
HK Innoen announced on September 25 that it participated in a "biodiversity exploration" activity held at the Yuldong Ecological Learning Center in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, on September 24.
This activity was part of an ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) environmental cooperation agreement signed with Seongnam City in March. It is an initiative in which experts, companies, and citizens jointly explore the local ecosystem, reflecting on the significance and value of ecosystem conservation. The program has been ongoing since 2017, and HK Innoen took part for the first time this year after opening "HK Innoen Square" in the second Pangyo Techno Valley in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, in February.
This year’s exploration was divided into eight categories: plants, fungi, insects, birds, spiders, benthic macroinvertebrates, amphibians and reptiles, and fish. Around 70 participants, including experts in each field, employees from HK Innoen and its partner companies, as well as citizen nature monitoring agents, took part in the event.
HK Innoen employees entered the area around Yuldong Reservoir to observe benthic macroinvertebrates and contributed to creating a biodiversity map by recording their findings on the "Naturing App," a platform for sharing nature activities. Benthic macroinvertebrates are visible invertebrates such as aquatic insects, mollusks, and crabs that live on the bottom of water bodies and serve as important ecological indicators for assessing river environments.
A representative from HK Innoen stated, "Our employees were able to directly observe and record living organisms, which helped them realize the importance of ecosystem conservation," adding, "We will continue to strengthen our ESG practices as a company and work with the local community of Seongnam to contribute to biodiversity conservation."
HK Innoen has been making continuous efforts to preserve biodiversity in the local community. From 2016 to 2024, the company ran the "Healthy Forest, Comfortable Breath" campaign, a forest creation initiative involving employee participation to mark Earth Day. Since opening "HK Innoen Square" in the second Pangyo Techno Valley in Seongnam in February, the company has also conducted "removal of invasive plant species" activities at the Tancheon Taepyeong Wetland.
