Linked Operation with Forest Leisure Sports Park
Expected to Boost Stay-Type Tourism
Geochang County in South Gyeongsang Province reopened the Baekdudaegan Ecological Education Center (2325 Paejae-ro, Goje-myeon) on September 25, after a long period of closure.
The Baekdudaegan Ecological Education Center is a space that offers education and hands-on experiences utilizing forest and ecological resources. The first floor features a video room where visitors can watch films about the formation of Baekdudaegan and rare or endangered species. The second floor houses Exhibition Halls 1 and 2, which introduce the distribution of forests, local flora and fauna, and various resources of Geochang, as well as a Baekdudaegan energy experience zone that incorporates natural rocks. The third floor includes a children's playroom, a seminar room, and a lounge. On the fourth-floor rooftop, there is a rest area and a rock climbing facility, among other diverse exhibition and experiential facilities on each floor.
During the closure, the county renovated the exhibition halls to make them more child-friendly, repaired audiovisual equipment, carried out building maintenance, and installed road safety facilities, among other overall improvements. With this reopening, the county plans to link the center with the Forest Leisure Sports Park to promote longer stays by tourists, expand ecological experiences and educational content, and further strengthen the region's tourism competitiveness.
A county official stated, "The Baekdudaegan Ecological Education Center plays an important role in preserving the ecological value of Baekdudaegan and serving as a platform for environmental education for future generations," adding, "We will continue to operate a variety of programs to develop it into a sustainable forest culture space."
The Baekdudaegan Ecological Education Center is open every week from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is closed on Mondays, New Year's Day, and during major holidays.
