Senior Haven Reopens... Gijang County Completes Remodeling of Banggok 1 and 3 Senior Centers

Total Project Cost of 900 Million Won
Three-Story Facility Completed

Gijang County (Governor Jung Jongbok) announced on the 24th that it had completed the remodeling of the Banggok 1 and 3 Senior Centers in Jeonggwan-eup and held an opening ceremony on the 23rd.

The event was attended by Governor Jung Jongbok, Park Hongbok, Chairman of the Gijang County Council, county council members, the head of the Gijang County branch of the Korean Senior Citizens Association, the presidents and members of the senior centers, and about 100 others, who gathered to celebrate the newly renovated senior centers as a refreshed haven for the elderly.

Previously, the Banggok 1 and 3 Village Senior Centers had only rented part of a building, making it difficult for seniors to use the facilities comfortably. To improve the environment, the county purchased a building in the village and carried out a remodeling project. A total of 900 million won (400 million won from the city, 500 million won from the county) was invested, with construction starting in April this year and the final inspection completed in July.

The newly opened senior centers are built on a site of 210.7 square meters, with a total floor area of 314.67 square meters, and consist of three above-ground floors. The first and second floors are designated separately for men and women, and the centers are fully equipped with heating and cooling systems, restrooms, and cooking facilities to ensure that seniors can use the space more conveniently and comfortably.

Jung Jongbok, Governor of Gijang County, said, "Now that the Banggok 1 and 3 Senior Centers have been reborn as comfortable and pleasant spaces, I hope many seniors will enjoy their leisure time here and lead healthy and happy lives in their later years. We will continue to pay close attention to the welfare of seniors and promote a variety of welfare initiatives."
