During this year's Lunar New Year holiday, six individuals who attempted to purchase Suseo High-Speed Railway (SRT) tickets using illegal macro programs are set to be handed over to the prosecution.
On September 24, the Suseo Police Station in Seoul announced that six suspects, including an individual identified as A, who attempted to purchase tickets and are under suspicion of obstruction of business, will be referred to the prosecution without detention the following day.
According to the police, between January 16 and 30, each of these individuals either created or downloaded malicious macro programs online and used them to illegally access the SRT ticket reservation and sales system, reserving a total of 24 tickets and disrupting the operation of the ticketing system.
Investigations revealed that they attempted at least 1.71 million and up to 31 million illegal access requests to the reservation system. As a result, ordinary users were unable to purchase tickets through legitimate means, and the SRT operator also experienced disruptions in system operations.
A police official stated, "Ticket reservations using illegal macro programs are clearly illegal, and we will continue to expand investigations into unfair practices occurring during online transactions."
