Han Donghoon, former leader of the People Power Party, who has refused to comply with the attendance request from the special investigation team led by Special Prosecutor Cho Eunseok, has drawn attention by revealing his recent activity of delivering chicken. With public interest focused on whether he will appear before the special prosecutor, he continues to engage in grassroots activities, directly listening to local public sentiment. While criticizing the special prosecutor's witness examination request as a "politically motivated attempt to divide conservatives," he remained reserved regarding the possibility of running in the by-elections to be held alongside next year's local elections.
"Listening to Public Sentiment" - Accompanying Chicken Deliveries

On September 24, Han appeared on CBS Radio's "Kim Hyunjung's News Show" and stated that he had visited Jinju, Gyeongnam the previous day as part of the "National Public Sentiment Listening" campaign. He said, "I met restaurant owners in Jinju who told me, 'The economy is really tough, and we need measures.' In the evening, I helped with work at a chicken chain in Jinju Innovation City, assisting with packaging and personally delivering orders to apartments."
He also shared that he heard about the difficulties faced by small business owners, especially the burden of app commission fees, during the delivery process. When the host asked if people recognized him at the homes he delivered to, Han replied with a smile, "These days, many people request that deliveries be left at the door without ringing the bell."
Strong Objection to Special Prosecutor's Attendance Request: "A Scheme to Divide Conservatives"
The day Han participated in chicken delivery coincided with the pre-trial witness examination date requested by the special prosecutor's team to secure his testimony, but the hearing did not proceed as he did not attend. The special investigation team, led by Special Prosecutor Cho Eunseok and investigating insurrection and treason cases, maintains that Han's testimony is necessary regarding allegations that former People Power Party Floor Leader Chu Kyungho changed the location of the parliamentary meeting multiple times on the day of the emergency martial law, thereby preventing party members from participating in the vote to lift martial law.
In response, Han stated, "On December 3, I was at the forefront in preventing martial law, more than anyone else, and as a result, I was ousted from my position as party leader and continue to face ongoing attacks. I am enduring political hardship," he said. "Moreover, the special prosecutor appointed by the Democratic Party wants to create a scenario in which I appear to collaborate, aiming to divide conservatives." He also referenced the case of People Power Party lawmaker Ahn Cheolsoo, who refused to appear as a witness, saying, "They said Ahn didn't have to come, but they mention me every week in briefings," and strongly criticized, "They are wasting hundreds of billions of taxpayer won, ultimately just clinging to my coattails."
"Everything Has Already Been Revealed... No Need to Appear"
On December 6 last year, citizens are watching news related to former Representative Han's remarks in the Seoul Station waiting room.
Regarding the fact that all subpoenas from the special prosecutor were returned as "recipient absent," Han commented, "Even if a subpoena were sent to you, anchor, it would be returned as recipient absent," adding, "It is inappropriate for the media to make an issue out of subpoenas being returned as undelivered." He maintained his position that there is no reason to respond to the special prosecutor's summons, as he has already publicly disclosed in detail what happened on the day martial law was declared.
As for why he did not run in the last People Power Party leadership election, he explained, "I believe our party must cross the sea of martial law and impeachment to rise again, and instead of stepping forward in August, I thought it would be better to give our party members and supporters a little more time," adding, "If opponents dig deeper into that issue and make it a bigger controversy, it will only make us stronger."
Regarding the possibility of running in the by-elections to be held alongside next year's local elections, he said, "There is little meaning in predicting or speculating in advance," but added, "I hope the country does well. In that process, I will do what I can."
