The National Association of County Governors of Rural Areas, established in 2012, is an organization where county governors from rural and fishing communities unite to propose policies to the central government and the National Assembly, and to jointly address issues such as regional extinction and unbalanced development.
This general meeting was attended by the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, as well as the governors and deputy governors of 34 member counties, who engaged in in-depth discussions on current issues and policy tasks for rural development. At the event, Jeon Jinseon, Governor of Yangpyeong County, was newly elected as a member of the association’s vice-presidential group, expressing his commitment to revitalizing the organization and promoting rural development through solidarity and cooperation among member counties.
In the subsequent meeting, Yangpyeong County actively proposed the need for policy improvements at the central government level to address pressing issues closely related to the lives of rural residents, including expanding national funding for projects to improve rural medical services, restructuring the eco-friendly agriculture direct payment system, and revising the priority order for beneficiaries of farmland leasing projects.
Governor Jeon Jinseon stated, “Being elected to the vice-presidential group is a heavy responsibility entrusted to us to overcome the crisis facing rural areas together. As rural communities are confronted with the serious challenge of population decline, I will do my utmost, centering on the association, to open the path to balanced development and restore vitality to our regions.”
Meanwhile, Yangpyeong County plans to continue actively proposing improvements to rural policies that directly affect residents’ lives through its participation in the association, and will do its best to create a sustainable rural and agricultural environment.
