This event aims to share the beauty and excitement of traditional culture with citizens and to widely promote the value of intangible heritage.
On September 27 at 2 p.m., the 65th regular performance of Yangju Byeolsandae Nori will take place.
Yangju Byeolsandae Nori, designated as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage, is a representative performance of "Korean Mask Dance," which is listed as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It is a folk play that satirizes the privileged class, formality, and morality, and is rich in humor.
This performance will begin with a street parade and an opening ritual, followed by a special guest performance (Pyeongchang Dunjunpyung Nongak, an intangible heritage from Gangwon Province) and various original acts of the mask dance, offering audiences the essence of traditional performing arts.
Then, on September 28 at 1 p.m., the 24th regular performance of Yangju Funeral Procession and Hoe Daji Sound will be staged.
Designated as an Intangible Heritage of Gyeonggi Province, Yangju Funeral Procession and Hoe Daji Sound is a performance that recreates traditional funeral customs and has passed down the community's wisdom and artistic sensibility.
On this day, a parade of funeral biers, an opening ritual, and performances of the funeral procession and Hoe Daji, along with various guest performances, will create a rich and vibrant stage.
Hong Miyeong, head of the Culture and Tourism Division, said, "I hope these two regular performances will be a valuable opportunity for citizens and visitors to enjoy traditional culture," adding, "We will continue to do our best to preserve and pass on intangible heritage."
