Gyeongcheon Reservoir in Wanju
Over 200 Enthusiasts and Officials to Participate
Jeonbuk Province will host the "2025 Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Governor's National Water Ski & Wakeboard Competition" over two days, from September 27 to 28, at the Gyeongcheon Reservoir area in Wanju County.
According to the province on September 24, approximately 200 enthusiasts and officials from 16 cities and provinces nationwide are expected to participate in the event, which will feature water ski and wakeboard competitions (student and general divisions).
On September 26, the competition venue will be opened for team practice, safety training for staff, and equipment inspections. The tournament will officially begin on September 27 with water ski competitions. On September 28, both water ski and wakeboard competitions will be held, followed by the awards ceremony and closing ceremony.
Athletes will be divided into student and general divisions (with the general division split into two groups based on those born in 1980), and will showcase their skills against the beautiful backdrop of Gyeongcheon Reservoir. The event will be held in conjunction with the Wild & Local Food Festival taking place during the same period, promising an even more enjoyable experience for visitors.
To prevent safety accidents during the competition, water rescue boats and safety personnel will be deployed. All participating athletes will be covered by accident insurance, required to wear suits (life jackets), and an ambulance will be on standby. In addition, an emergency contact system will be established with relevant agencies, including Wanju Fire Station and local hospitals, to ensure thorough safety management.
Kim Byungha, Director of the Marine and Port Division, stated, "We expect this competition to offer a variety of attractions, combining a beautiful venue with the athletes' impressive skills, making it a festival that both participants and spectators can enjoy together. We will continue to strengthen Jeonbuk Province's competitiveness as a marine leisure tourism destination and work to expand diverse infrastructure and attractions."
