Police are investigating the circumstances after a series of reports were received about bomb threat emails sent to universities in the Gyeonggi Province area.

According to the Suwon Yeongtong Police Station in Gyeonggi Province on the 23rd, at around 11:15 a.m. that day, an email was sent to the publicity office of Kyonggi University stating, "Explosives have been installed at 38 locations. They will explode today." Then, at approximately 12:25 p.m., a similar email was received at the dormitory email address of Ajou University.

The sender has been identified as the same source as the threatening emails and faxes suspected to have originated from Japan, which have been rampant since August 2023.

Police assessed the situation as Level 2 (low risk) according to the risk assessment criteria in the domestic general terrorism crisis response manual.

Accordingly, without deploying the police special operations unit, Suwon Yeongtong Police Station and the mobile patrol unit have strengthened campus patrols and safety measures.
