The meeting, presided over by Vice Mayor Jang Sangkil, was attended by more than 70 people, including department heads, heads of bureaus and headquarters, and heads of towns, townships, and neighborhoods. Participants agreed to share information and work closely together to protect returning visitors and citizens from various disasters and safety accidents that may occur during the holiday period.
The city plans to minimize damage to citizens by operating a 24-hour disaster and safety accident situation room and maintaining an emergency work system throughout the Chuseok holiday. In addition, the city will strengthen pre-holiday inspections of high-risk areas and respond quickly to any accidents that occur during the holiday in cooperation with relevant agencies such as the police and fire departments.
To prepare for autumn typhoons, the city is continuing resident evacuation drills to prevent river collapses and urban flooding, maintaining drainage systems and cleaning sewers, and conducting pre-inspections of areas at risk of landslides, soil runoff, and construction sites. In particular, administrative efforts are being concentrated on preventing casualties, including establishing step-by-step evacuation plans in case of flooding of the Hyeongsan River.
Vice Mayor Jang Sangkil stated, "We will prevent flooding damage caused by autumn leaves in areas prone to frequent flooding by implementing a responsible management system and regularly maintaining drainage systems. We will also establish thorough measures for each town, township, and neighborhood so that citizens with mobility difficulties can evacuate quickly in emergencies, doing our utmost to ensure a safe Chuseok holiday."
