Damyang-gun in Jeonnam Province (Governor Jung Chulwon) announced on the 23rd that, in celebration of the 29th Senior Citizens' Month, it will sequentially hold Senior Citizens' Day commemorative events in 12 towns and townships within the county, starting with the Daedeok-myeon Senior Citizens' Day event held at the Happy Sharing Center in Daedeok-myeon on the 19th and continuing through November.
This year, the Senior Citizens' Day events have been changed from the previous format, where they were held at the village level, to a new approach in which each town and township sets its own date according to local circumstances. The events are organized by various local private organizations, including the Senior Citizens' Day Event Promotion Committee, the Residents' Autonomy Committee, the Village Leaders' Association, the Youth Association, and the Women's Association Council. The events will feature commendations for filial individuals, exemplary parents, model seniors, those recognized for good deeds, and contributors to senior welfare, as well as performances and meals for the elderly.
Meanwhile, the opening event on the 19th, organized by the Daedeok-myeon Women's Association Council (President Hong Soondeok), was attended by about 400 people, including residents, seniors, and heads of various local organizations and institutions. The event included a pungmul (traditional percussion music) performance by the Manduk Pungmuldan, a Zumba dance performance by the Happy Zumba Team, followed by commendations, a commemorative address, congratulatory speeches, performances, and a meal.
In his congratulatory speech, Governor Jung Chulwon stated, "It is thanks to our seniors that we enjoy today's prosperity and development. We will continue to listen to the voices of our elders and do our utmost to ensure their happiness in later life. I hope today's event brings some comfort to you all."
