It has been revealed that the top 10 individuals who purchased the most residential properties over the past six years acquired more than 4,000 homes. The total purchase amount for these individuals exceeded 660 billion won.
According to data submitted by Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Min Hongcheol, a member of the National Assembly's Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on September 23, 2025, the top 1,000 individuals in terms of the number of home purchases bought a total of 37,196 residential properties between January 2020 and June of this year. The total purchase amount was tallied at 4.340675 trillion won.
The tally included apartments, multiplex housing, and single-family or multi-family homes, and was analyzed based on transaction reports using contract dates.
Among them, the top 10 individuals alone purchased a total of 4,115 properties, with transaction amounts reaching 663.906 billion won. On average, each person acquired 411 homes, spending 66.39 billion won per person.
Looking at individual figures, the top buyer purchased 794 properties (116.061 billion won), the second purchased 693 properties (108.209 billion won), the third bought 666 properties (107.442 billion won), the fourth acquired 499 properties (59.725 billion won), and the fifth purchased 318 properties (48.289 billion won).
In addition, one individual purchased a total of 49.849 billion won worth of properties with just 30 transactions, which amounts to an average of 1.661 billion won per property, indicating a focus on acquiring high-priced homes.
Assemblyman Min pointed out, "Due to the failure of real estate policies under the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, the market has turned into a playground for speculation," adding, "It is necessary to stabilize the real estate market and curb speculative sentiment by expanding housing supply."
