According to the business community and the Naval Academy, Lee attended the 139th Naval Officer Candidate Entrance Ceremony held at 11 a.m. at the Woongpo Auditorium of the Naval Academy in Jinhae-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongnam, where he reported his enrollment along with his fellow candidates. It was reported that his family, including his father Chairman Lee, did not attend the ceremony.

Lee will undergo 11 weeks of officer training and will be commissioned as a Navy second lieutenant on December 1. Second lieutenant is the lowest of the three company-grade officer ranks. Samsung stated, "Lee plans to serve for 39 months, including the training period." Actual service will begin after commissioning, and his unit assignment and position will be determined based on his training performance and the personnel needs for each military specialty.

On September 15, Lee enlisted as a naval officer candidate through the Jinhae Base Command in Changwon, Gyeongnam. Born in 2000 in Manhattan, New York, USA, he held dual citizenship in Korea and the United States, but reportedly renounced his U.S. citizenship to fulfill his military duty in Korea.
