Jeongeup City in North Jeolla Province will host the '6th Book Festival Moonlight Picnic' event at Jeongeup City Central Library and Reading Park on September 26 and 27.
According to the city on September 23, this year's festival is being held in celebration of September, the Month of Reading, under the slogan "Weather Forecast: Reading Today, Clear Tomorrow." The event will feature lectures, performances, and hands-on activities that all generations can enjoy together.
The festival will begin with a pre-ceremony performance by the a cappella group 'Ojik Moksori,' followed by an opening ceremony on the outdoor stage at Reading Park. The program includes awards for outstanding citizens, recognition of families who read together and top participants in the reading marathon, as well as publication ceremonies for the citizen writers' fairy tale and essay classes.
Afterwards, professional actors will stage a reading play titled "Pilgrimage House," presenting a fusion of literature and theater.
On September 26, author Ko Myunghwan, a former broadcaster, will give a lecture on "The Answer Lies in the Classics in the Age of AI," and author Lee Bohyun will introduce the world of independent publishing for beginners. On September 27, Lee Myeongae, the picture book author who won the BIB Golden Apple Award in 2021, will share her creative process under the theme "How Small Illustrations Come Together to Form a Book."
In addition, a variety of performances such as a bubble balloon show, a classical trio concert, and moonlight busking will be held. Around 20 hands-on booths, original artwork exhibitions, and children's activities will also be available, encouraging participation from families across the city.
The city expects this book festival to provide an opportunity for all citizens to become more familiar with books and libraries, and to establish itself as a cultural event for families to enjoy together.
