Collaboration for Building and Commercializing the 6G Ecosystem
Samsung Electronics is leading the future of 6G (sixth-generation mobile communication) technology alongside global big tech companies.
On September 23, Samsung Electronics announced that it will join the global consortium "Verizon 6G Innovation Forum" to define the future of 6G wireless communication and accelerate related technology development.
This consortium is led by the U.S. telecommunications company Verizon, and includes key players in the IT and telecommunications technology sectors such as Samsung Electronics, Meta, Ericsson, Nokia, and Qualcomm.
The participating companies will collaborate to build and commercialize the 6G ecosystem, focusing on new use cases, devices, and network technology design. To achieve this, they plan to identify new spectrum bands and conduct bandwidth tests, strengthen cooperation with global standardization organizations such as 3GPP, and establish 6G research labs for prototype development and field testing.

In particular, Samsung Electronics plans to actively conduct research for the 6G era by utilizing AI-powered wireless communication technology to discover new user experiences and develop related communication technologies. Jung Jinguk, Vice President and Head of Next-Generation Communications Research Center at Samsung Research, stated, "Samsung Electronics will work closely with global big tech companies to validate AI and communication network technologies that will lead future wireless, accelerating the arrival of the 6G era that delivers innovative user experiences."
Samsung Electronics and Verizon previously took the lead in 2020 by introducing virtualized base stations and successfully launching commercial services. Through this, they have provided stable network services and are collaborating on the development of next-generation AI-based base stations and the transition to 6G.
Additionally, Samsung Electronics operates the Next-Generation Communications Research Center under Samsung Research to strengthen 6G communication technology research and technical cooperation with mobile network operators.
