To ensure students have a safe route to school, a new Walking School Bus route was launched and has been in operation since September 12. The city is systematically managing the safety of the school route in cooperation with the local community.
This measure is a safety initiative designed to preemptively eliminate potential hazards on the school route, such as construction vehicle traffic, noise, and dust. In addition to the existing “Misa Station Hyosung Harrington ~ Cheonga Elementary” route, a new route has been added, focusing on areas adjacent to the construction site.
Notably, on the 22nd, the mayor of Hanam personally visited the Walking School Bus site, walking to school with Cheonga Elementary students to inspect the safety conditions of the school route. At the site, he greeted members of the Green Mothers Association and parent volunteers, emphasizing the importance of creating a safe school commute culture through joint efforts between the public sector and the community.
On this day, the mayor urged construction site officials to strictly manage all potential risks caused by the construction, including restricting construction vehicle movement during school commute hours, as well as controlling noise, dust, and ensuring pedestrian safety.
The expansion of the Walking School Bus is significant not only as a traffic safety measure, but also as evidence that Hanam City is implementing policies on the ground to protect the daily lives of children.
Mayor Lee Hyunjae stated, “Although the construction of the tentatively named Misa 4 High School is an important project for the future of the region, the safety of our children must never be neglected in the process. I will continue to closely monitor the site to ease the concerns of parents inconvenienced by the construction and to ensure that children can go to school with peace of mind.”
Hanam City also plans to actively recruit parent and local resident volunteers from Cheonga Elementary to expand community participation in ensuring school route safety.
In addition, the city will continue to conduct regular inspections of the school route and gather citizen feedback, and will consistently implement practical and responsible measures such as adding Walking School Bus routes and improving safety facilities as needed.
