Personal Information Protection Commission Launches Investigation into Lotte Card Customer Data Leak

Personal Information Protection Commission Launches Investigation into Lotte Card Customer Data Leak Yonhap News Agency

The Personal Information Protection Commission announced on September 22 that it has launched an investigation into the leakage of personal information related to the Lotte Card hacking incident.

The Commission stated, "We have been continuously verifying the facts in response to media reports regarding the leakage of Lotte Card customer information."

The investigation was initiated on this day after the Financial Supervisory Service informed the Commission on September 19 that Lotte Card had reported a personal credit information leak to the Financial Supervisory Service. According to the Credit Information Act, when the Financial Services Commission or other relevant authorities receive a report of a personal credit information leak from a credit information company, they are required to notify the Personal Information Protection Commission.

The Commission added, "We will thoroughly examine whether personal information, in addition to credit information, has been leaked and whether there have been any violations of the Personal Information Protection Act," and stated, "We plan to conduct the investigation in close cooperation with the financial authorities."
