"A Venue for Harmony Between Residents and Tourists"
Boseong County in South Jeolla Province announced on September 22 that the '2025 Boseong Beolgyo Mudflat Festival,' held on September 20 in the Jangyang Fishing Village Experience Area in Beolgyo-eup, concluded successfully as a venue for harmony between residents and tourists.
This year's festival, themed 'Let's Play in the Mudflat!', featured a variety of programs that allowed participants to directly experience the ecological and cultural value of the mudflats.
During the opening ceremony, a flagship species proclamation event was held to designate the Far Eastern Curlew as the representative bird of the Boseong Beolgyo mudflat. Residents and tourists participated in a performance where they flew paper birds together, reaffirming their commitment to preserving the mudflat ecosystem.
The highlight of the festival was the 10th Leisure Mudflat Raft Competition. Participants raced across the mudflat on traditional fishing rafts called 'ppeolbae,' creating special memories. Families enjoyed a variety of programs, including barehanded fish catching, mudflat futsal, and charcoal grilling experiences.
The 'Beolgyo Mudflat Trail Ecological Walking Competition,' held for the first time this year, offered two courses of 7.4 kilometers and 3.6 kilometers, allowing participants to walk the path leading to Beolgyo Ecological Park and experience the mudflat ecosystem up close.
The Beolgyo Mudflat Promotion Exhibition Hall featured a photo zone where visitors could take pictures with the ppeolbae and the county's flagship species. There was also a VR experience center and a seabird photo exhibition, providing educational experiences that fostered a connection with nature.
Kim Gildu, the festival organizing committee chairperson, said, "This festival was an important occasion to inherit and develop mudflat culture, and it became a meaningful time for residents and tourists to come together. I especially hope that a day spent playing and learning in nature with children will remain a precious memory."
Kim Cheolwoo, the county governor, stated, "Traditionally, working in the mudflats has been considered one of the most challenging tasks, but we take pride in the Beolgyo mudflat as the finest in Korea. We will continue to protect and preserve this mudflat for all generations."
Meanwhile, the county plans to make next year's festival even richer, promoting mudflat conservation and ecological tourism, and providing more enjoyable activities for families.
