GIST Supports Career and Growth of Foreign Graduate Students: "Securing Science and Technology Talent"

The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) announced on September 22 that it participated as a partner institution in the Gwangju and Jeolla region for the "Career Exploration Program for Foreign Graduate Students in Science and Engineering," supporting the career development and growth of foreign graduate students in the domestic research and development (R&D) sector.

This program, held at the Ramada Hotel in Gwangju on September 19 and 20, was organized as part of the National Institute for Science and Technology Human Resources Development (KIRD)'s "Full-Cycle Settlement Support Project for Overseas Researchers." Foreign master's and doctoral students and graduates from the four major Institutes of Science and Technology (KAIST, GIST, UNIST, DGIST) and the University of Science and Technology (UST) attended the event.

This year's program was divided into three regions-Daejeon and Chungcheong, Daegu and Gyeongsang, and Gwangju and Jeolla-to provide practical support tailored to the research environments and characteristics of each area. By holding separate sessions for each region, the program offered more foreign researchers the opportunity to participate.

As securing advanced science and technology talent has emerged as a key factor in national competitiveness, this program is expected to contribute to expanding the domestic activity base for foreign researchers in line with the government's policies for attracting and settling talent.

The program included practical content to support foreign researchers, such as career path exploration, job competency enhancement, networking, and one-on-one personalized consulting. Nayan Chandra Das, who graduated from GIST’s Department of Electrical, Electronic, and Computer Engineering in 2022 and is currently employed at Samsung Electronics, participated as a speaker and shared his successful employment experience. Drawing on his experience and know-how gained in the domestic R&D sector, he offered realistic and valuable advice to junior researchers, receiving a positive response from participants.

GIST President Lim Ki-chul stated, "This career exploration program is a valuable opportunity for foreign researchers to effectively demonstrate their expertise in both research settings and society. GIST will continue to be a strong supporter so that they can play important roles on the global R&D stage as well."
