Gwanak District Conducts Autumn Cleaning for Chuseok with Residents

Monthly Resident Self-Governed Cleaning

Gwanak District in Seoul (Mayor Park Junhee) announced on the 21st that it had completed preparations for a pleasant Chuseok holiday by conducting a large-scale autumn cleaning with residents on the 18th, ahead of the holiday period.

Since 2022, the district has consistently held the "Resident Self-Governed Cleaning" event, in which residents voluntarily participate on the third Thursday of every month. During this cleaning week, the district collected fallen leaves along major roads in preparation for the long holiday, and focused on maintaining vulnerable areas such as green belts, locations with frequent illegal dumping, and areas with high foot traffic. In addition, storm drains were inspected and maintained to prevent flooding in September, a month prone to typhoons and heavy rainfall.

For this large-scale cleaning, the district established "Safety Guidelines for Resident Self-Governed Cleaning" to prioritize the safety of participating residents. After the cleaning, there was also a session to listen to residents' opinions on the overall operation of the district, including cleaning administration.

To ensure efficient and eco-friendly cleaning administration, Gwanak District has introduced "low-noise, low-emission recycling collection methods" and increased the number of street trash cans to improve road cleanliness. The district has also distributed "recycling-only bags" that allow residents to separate three types of recyclables by category, and is running a "Resource Circulation Club" to promote a culture of resource circulation, all as part of its efforts to create a "Clean Living Space in Gwanak."
