Yeonggwang County in Jeollanam-do has requested that farmers strictly adhere to timely pest control and the use of registered pesticides, as recent temperature and humidity conditions have become favorable for cabbage growth, while at the same time, the occurrence of diseases and pests has been rapidly increasing.

This year, pests and diseases such as the diamondback moth, flea beetle, soft rot, and clubroot are spreading in autumn cabbage fields more quickly than usual, requiring extra caution. In particular, pests tend to hide on the underside of leaves and at the growing points, causing damage. Therefore, it is important to use a sufficient amount of pesticide and ensure thorough coverage on the underside of the leaves when spraying.

Additionally, to reduce the incidence of diseases, it is necessary to maintain proper drainage and ventilation within the fields. Farmers should apply registered pesticides according to the specified dilution ratio and recommended amount. Careless overuse can lead to phytotoxicity and residual pesticide issues, so caution is advised.

Furthermore, with abnormal high temperatures occurring more frequently, the importance of early management after transplanting has increased. It is essential to maintain uniform soil moisture and, to prevent calcium deficiency, ensure stable soil moisture through adequate irrigation along with appropriate fertilization.

The director of the Agricultural Technology Center stated, "Field monitoring and timely pest control are most important to reduce damage from diseases and pests," and urged, "We ask that farmers strictly follow the specified dilution ratios and usage amounts when applying registered pesticides."
