This award recognizes not only the construction of the bridge, but also its contribution to revitalizing the local economy and fostering community development.
The Hantan River in Pocheon is the only basalt-eroded river in Korea, renowned for its grand natural scenery created by columnar jointed canyons and its diverse geological attractions. With the completion of the Y-shaped suspension bridge, previously disconnected sites such as Bidulginang Waterfall, the Ecological Landscape Complex, and the Garamnuri Observatory have been connected, completing a circular tourist route that allows visitors to fully experience the Hantan River.
In addition, the Hantan River Garden Festa, which was held in conjunction with the bridge's opening, attracted more than 450,000 tourists during two events in the fall of 2024 and this spring. The festival was highly praised for its role in boosting the local economy through resident-participatory markets and the consumption of local gift certificates, among other activities.
Baek Younghyeon, Mayor of Pocheon City, stated, "I hope that the Hantan River Y-shaped Suspension Bridge will become a symbol connecting the future of Pocheon. I will continue to do my best to communicate with citizens and build a greater Pocheon."
