KB Financial Group will discuss cooperation measures related to stablecoins with Tether USAT, the U.S.-focused subsidiary of global stablecoin issuer Tether, at the KB Kookmin Bank new building in Yeouido, Seoul, on September 22.
Yang Jonghee, Chairman of KB Financial Group, is scheduled to meet with Bo Hines, CEO of Tether USAT, on that day to explore ways to establish a strategic partnership aimed at identifying business opportunities in the stablecoin sector in response to changes in domestic and international digital asset regulatory environments and to strengthen the competitiveness of global digital financial services.
Tether is a global company that issues and operates the world's largest stablecoin, USDT. On September 12, the company announced its plan to launch a new dollar-pegged stablecoin, USAT, by the end of the year, which will fully comply with the U.S. dollar stablecoin regulation bill known as the GENIUS Act. In addition, Tether is taking the lead in institutionalizing and enhancing the credibility of the digital asset market through partnerships with major regulated financial institutions.
Bo Hines, CEO of Tether USAT, is a digital asset policy expert who previously served as Executive Director of the Presidential Digital Asset Advisory Committee under the Trump administration. He was responsible for developing policies and regulatory frameworks for the digital asset industry in the United States, including the enactment of the GENIUS Act.
A KB Financial Group representative stated, "This meeting is aimed at building a digital financial ecosystem that not only responds to the global spread of stablecoins but also safeguards our country's monetary sovereignty and fosters mutual growth with small business owners." The representative added, "KB Financial Group will continue to provide innovative digital financial services that contribute to revitalizing the real economy while aligning with national digital currency policies."
