The event was attended by Deputy Minister Noh Yongseok of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, Director Ahn Gwanghyun of the Smart Manufacturing Innovation Promotion Team, and representatives from 20 companies. The agenda included discussions on the plan to introduce artificial intelligence (AI)-powered autonomous factories, a tour of the Cheonan plant, and a roundtable meeting.
Through the autonomous factory establishment project organized by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, Jongkundang plans to build an autonomous factory where workers and AI collaborate, based on an AI digital twin for real-time monitoring, analysis, and prediction, in order to enhance quality competitiveness. The company is working to strengthen employees' digital capabilities and introduce new technologies, while also establishing an intelligent autonomous operation system based on AI, digital twins, and MLLM to simultaneously achieve quality, efficiency, and sustainability.
The AI-powered intelligent monitoring system to be established through this project will apply a multi-modal model capable of simultaneously understanding and reasoning with various types of data, such as images and videos. By integrating previously dispersed monitoring systems into a single platform, the company aims to reduce human errors and proactively prevent equipment downtime and quality issues. The automated alarm analysis system will assist operators in decision-making, alleviating work burdens and ensuring consistent quality even in shift work environments. Additionally, it will reduce waste of energy and resources, enabling sustainable operations.
Jongkundang CEO Youngjoo Kim stated, "The autonomous factory is not just a process innovation, but a core strategy to ensure Jongkundang's sustainable growth in the global pharmaceutical market," adding, "Through collaboration with AI, we will improve quality and increase production efficiency to secure global competitiveness."
