The 'Republic of Korea Healthy City Award' is held annually to discover and promote outstanding cases of local governments building healthy cities, and to encourage health equity and sustainable policy development. Winners are selected based on a comprehensive evaluation of both qualitative and quantitative assessments, with awards given to the highest-scoring cities.
For the qualitative assessment, Geumcheon District submitted the theme 'Geumcheon, a Healthy City of Slow Aging through Regional Integration of Medical and Care Services.' In response to an aging society, the district established health longevity centers based on local branches to serve as health management hubs, and linked local medical and care resources so that all residents can enjoy a healthy life. This approach received high marks. In the quantitative assessment, the district also achieved high scores in various areas, including infrastructure expansion, interdepartmental cooperation, and community participation.
Geumcheon District operates health longevity centers in three regions, including the public health center and the Parkmi and Doksan health branches, where multidisciplinary professional teams-comprising doctors, nurses, nutritionists, exercise specialists, and dental hygienists-provide customized health management for seniors. Through the 'Health Longevity School' and regular programs, the centers support chronic disease prevention, nutrition and exercise education, and CPR training, enabling residents to receive systematic health management within their daily lives.
Yoo Seonghoon, Mayor of Geumcheon District, stated, "This award is external recognition of the achievements of Geumcheon District's vision for 'a good city where everyone is healthy.' We will continue to develop and expand policies that integrate health into all aspects of residents' lives."
