The special prosecutor team summoned Assemblyman Kwon at around 2 p.m. that day and questioned him for about three hours. This was the first time he was summoned since his detention on September 16, two days prior.
The special prosecutor team is reported to have focused its investigation on the so-called "collusion between religion and politics" allegations involving the Unification Church. Assemblyman Kwon is said to have not exercised his right to remain silent.
The special prosecutor team plans to summon Assemblyman Kwon again for further questioning on September 19.
Assemblyman Kwon is accused of receiving 100 million won in January 2022 from Yoon, then the worldwide head of the Unification Church, in exchange for a request to look after the church's interests if Yoon Sukyeol was elected president, including providing votes, organizational support, and financial resources from Unification Church members during the 20th presidential election.
