On this day, the Nikkei Index closed at 45,303, up 1.15% from the previous trading day. This surpassed the previous all-time closing high of 44,902, which was set just two days earlier on September 16.

Notably, the index rose as high as 45,508 during intraday trading, breaking through the 45,500 mark for the first time.

The Nihon Keizai Shimbun cited the U.S. Federal Reserve's decision to lower its benchmark interest rate by 0.25 percentage points on September 17 (local time) as a key factor behind the stock price rally, reporting that buying was concentrated in semiconductor-related stocks on the Tokyo stock market.
