"Prosecutors’ Office Abolition" Government Organization Act Amendment Passes Subcommittee Led by Ruling Party

People Power Party Boycotts the Vote
Final Decision Expected at Plenary Session on the 25th

On September 18, the first subcommittee of the Public Administration and Security Committee at the National Assembly passed an amendment to the Government Organization Act, which includes the abolition of the Prosecutors’ Office and the restructuring of economic ministries.


The subcommittee, led by the ruling party, passed the amendment on this day. Lawmakers from the People Power Party boycotted the vote in protest against the bill's passage.

The core of the amendment is the abolition of the Prosecutors’ Office and the separation of the prosecution’s investigative and indictment functions, establishing the Serious Crimes Investigation Agency and the Prosecution Agency. The amendment also includes splitting the Ministry of Economy and Finance into the Planning and Budget Office and the Ministry of Finance and Economy, as well as reorganizing the Financial Services Commission into the Financial Supervisory Commission.


The amendment passed on this day is scheduled to be approved at the full session of the Public Administration and Security Committee on September 22. It is expected to undergo review by the Legislation and Judiciary Committee of the National Assembly from September 23 to 24 and to be finalized at the plenary session on September 25.
