With the launch of the new administration, Korea's healthcare sector is considered to be facing complex challenges such as population aging, digital transformation, and infectious disease response. At the 2025 APEC Health Ministerial Meeting held earlier this year, the importance of international cooperation and policy alignment was emphasized. This seminar was organized in line with these global trends.
James Kim, Chairman and CEO of AmCham, highlighted in his opening remarks that "healthcare stands at the center of the Korean government's core national agenda, ABCDE (Artificial Intelligence, Biotechnology, Cultural Content, Defense, Aerospace, and Energy Transition)." He further stressed, "Policy reforms that can support innovation in drug pricing and reimbursement systems will play a crucial role in expanding patient access to treatment, while also enabling Korea to emerge as a global leader in biotechnology."
He added, "Recent changes in the political environments of both Korea and the United States have opened up significant opportunities to accelerate cooperation in strategic industries. As advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence are reshaping the healthcare sector, AmCham will continue to work closely with the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the National Assembly, and other policy authorities to offer constructive policy recommendations and actively support Korea in establishing itself as a hub of bio-innovation in Asia."
Jung Eun-kyung, Minister of Health and Welfare, stated in a written congratulatory message, "As the world faces complex challenges such as population aging and digital transformation, healthcare innovation is a key task for improving the quality of life for citizens and enhancing national competitiveness. Under the vision of 'K-Bio Global Top 5,' the government will foster biohealth as a national strategic industry and strive to achieve competitive results in various fields, including innovative new drugs, biosimilars, and advanced regenerative medicine. To this end, we will actively pursue swift regulatory innovation, expand R&D and government fund investments, and build cooperative networks to stabilize global supply chains."
Now in its 16th year, AmCham's Healthcare Innovation Seminar has established itself as a leading annual event representing healthcare cooperation between Korea and the United States. This year, official partners included Eli Lilly, Moderna, MSD, Pfizer, Vantiv, Intuitive Surgical, Samsung Bioepis, and UPS Healthcare, adding further significance to the event.
