Navalny established an anti-corruption foundation and became known as Putin's most prominent political opponent by exposing corruption among President Putin and other high-ranking Russian officials.

In 2020, Navalny survived an attempted poisoning on a flight from Siberia to Moscow. However, he was arrested and imprisoned immediately upon returning to Russia the following year. Russian judicial authorities increased his sentence by charging him with multiple offenses, including extremism and fraud.

Navalny died suddenly in 2024 at the age of 47 in a prison located in the northernmost part of Siberia. At the time, Russian correctional authorities issued a brief statement claiming that he died of natural causes.

In connection with this, Navalnaya has asserted that Russian authorities are concealing Navalny's true cause of death. She criticized the official documents obtained in June of last year, in which Russian authorities concluded that arrhythmia caused by cholecystitis, intervertebral hernia, and a staphylococcus aureus infection was the cause of Navalny's death, stating that this was a falsehood and not the truth.
