Dobong District Mayor Oh Eonseok: "We Will Spare No Support"
Dobong District in Seoul (District Mayor Oh Eonseok) announced on September 18 that the 'Ui-Banghak Light Rail (Ui-Sinseol Extension Line)' project, which will connect the Ui-Sinseol Line to Banghak Station, has officially entered the implementation phase.
On September 16, the Seoul Metropolitan Government signed a construction contract, including detailed design, for the 'Ui-Banghak Light Rail Urban Railway Construction Project' with the HL D&I Halla Consortium. Under this contract, the city will proceed with priority construction work as well as detailed design across all fields, including civil engineering and architecture, aiming to complete the design by September next year.
Regarding this, Dobong District Mayor Oh Eonseok stated, "The Ui-Banghak Light Rail will play a pivotal role in revitalizing the economy of Dobong District and the northeastern region of Seoul," adding, "We will provide full administrative support at the district level to ensure the smooth progress of the project."
The Ui-Banghak Light Rail project will extend the Ui-Sinseol Line by 3.94 kilometers from Solbat Park Station to Banghak Station, with three new stations to be constructed. The total project cost is 469 billion won, and the target completion year is 2032. Once the project is completed, direct transfers to Line 1 at Banghak Station will be possible, significantly improving transportation convenience for residents of Dobong District and the northeastern region.
Previously, the Ui-Banghak Light Rail project had stalled due to a lack of participation from construction companies amid debates over its economic feasibility during the bidding process. However, after the Seoul Metropolitan Government changed the project method to a negotiated contract and signed this agreement, the project has now entered full-scale implementation.
