Busan Veterans Office and Busan National University of Education Hold Pilot Veterans' Culture Class with Prospective Teachers

Class Uses AI to Explore the Legacy of Independence Activists

The Busan Regional Veterans Office (Director Namil Lee) and Busan National University of Education (President Park Suja) have developed teaching and learning materials that prospective teachers can use in the classroom to promote education on veterans' culture. They also launched a collaborative project to apply these materials in veterans' culture education.

As part of this initiative, prospective teachers researched and created veterans' culture education plans incorporating AI technology. On September 17, they conducted a pilot class at Sinjeong Elementary School in Jeonggwan-eup, Gijang-gun (Principal Kim Sowon), under the theme "80th Anniversary of Liberation, Tracing the Footsteps of Busan Independence Activists through AI."

The class was held for 23 students in Class 3 of the fourth grade (homeroom teacher Kanghee Lee) under the topic "Let's Learn About Independence Activists from Busan." The lesson proceeded in the following order: exploring the meaning of the independence movement, learning about independence activists from Busan, and presenting admirable qualities. Students studied the lives of prominent Busan independence activists such as Cha-jeong Park, Jaehyuk Park, and Heeje Ahn using AI-based educational video materials.

The students completed the class by writing their reflections on worksheets and composing letters to the independence activist of their choice.

A representative from the Busan Regional Veterans Office stated, "We will continue to promote collaborative projects with the university of education to strengthen the foundation for veterans' culture education centered on future generations and to increase the interest and participation of young people."
