Mungyeong's New Values Shaped by Kindness and Respect
Mungyeong City in North Gyeongsang Province held the "2025 Gender Equality Week Commemorative Event" at the Grand Theater of the Mungyeong Culture and Arts Center on September 16, organized by the Mungyeong City Women's Association Council.
Shin Hyunguk, mayor of Mungyeong City, is delivering a greeting at the event commemorating Gender Equality Week.
Approximately 700 people, including local women leaders and members from 19 women's organizations, attended the event to unite in promoting the values of gender equality and realizing an equitable society.
Under the slogan "A Gender-Equal Society Where Everyone Is Respected, A Happy Mungyeong City for All," the event included an introduction to women's group activities, the presentation of plaques of appreciation to 19 individuals who contributed to gender equality, and a special performance on the theme of gender equality.
Following this, a kindness performance was held under the slogan "We Take the Lead in Making Mungyeong a Kind City Together," which resonated with and engaged the citizens.
Kim Mija, President of the Mungyeong City Women's Association Council, stated, "I hope that a culture of gender equality and the practice of kindness will take root in everyday life so that everyone can be respected and happy," adding, "We will continue to work toward establishing gender equality awareness as a part of our local culture."
Shin Hyunguk, Mayor of Mungyeong City, emphasized, "Gender equality goes beyond equal rights; it begins with mutual respect and consideration," and added, "Based on 'kindness,' which Mungyeong City has set as its administrative value this year, we will build an equitable society where all citizens are respected and share happiness."
This event stands out for integrating the universal value of gender equality with the local administrative philosophy of "kindness." Mungyeong City's efforts to promote gender equality through practical action in daily life, rather than just holding a commemorative ceremony, can serve as a valuable model for other local governments.
At the Gyeongbuk Mungyeong City Gender Equality Week commemorative event, attendees are holding placards and performing a Gender Equality Week performance.
