According to the headquarters on September 17, the emergency vehicle priority signal control system was established as part of the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) project. This advanced technology automatically controls traffic signals when fire vehicles approach intersections during the transport of critical patients, such as those experiencing cardiac arrest, or when responding to fire and rescue scenes, thereby securing the golden time for emergency response.
With this expansion, all command vehicles, ambulances, and rescue operation vehicles at the Gunsan, Iksan, and Jeongeup Fire Stations, as well as one pump truck at the Gunsan Fire Station, are now able to utilize the system. This achievement was made possible through the active cooperation and administrative support of related organizations, including the city governments of Gunsan, Iksan, and Jeongeup, as well as the Gunsan, Iksan, and Jeongeup Police Stations.
As of last month, the Fire Headquarters had utilized the emergency vehicle priority signal control system in a total of 627 emergency dispatches. Analysis of its effectiveness confirmed tangible results, such as reducing the average ambulance transport time to hospitals by 4 minutes and 49 seconds.
Director Lee Osook stated, "From the perspective of ordinary drivers, the unusual signal cycles at certain intersections may feel unfamiliar, but this is an urgent measure to save even one more life. The system is operated with great caution only in emergency situations, and as it is a technology designed to protect the lives and safety of residents, we ask for your understanding and cooperation."
Meanwhile, the headquarters plans to continue prioritizing the lives and safety of residents, further strengthening its cooperation system with related organizations, and continuously expanding and advancing its cutting-edge response system linked to transportation infrastructure.
