Kang Kyungwha, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, who has been nominated as the first ambassador to the United States under the Lee Jaemyung administration, is expected to take office soon, as the United States has completed its agreement process.
On the 17th, Wi Sungrak, Director of the National Security Office, responded to a question about the delay in Kang's agr?ment process at a meeting with the Korea News Editors' Association held at the Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, by saying, "Ambassador Kang's agr?ment has been granted." As the agr?ment process has been completed, Kang is expected to be officially appointed as ambassador to the United States and begin her official duties soon.
Agr?ment refers to the host country's consent for diplomatic envoys such as ambassadors. Once this process is completed, it means that all diplomatic procedures for the official appointment have been finalized. Accordingly, Kang's appointment is expected to coincide with President Lee Jaemyung's attendance at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which will be held in New York, United States, on September 23.
Kang previously served as Minister at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations, Special Policy Adviser to the UN Secretary-General, and was the first Minister of Foreign Affairs under the Moon Jaein administration.
