Awards Ceremony to Be Held on the 25th
During the 48th Nosan Cultural Festival and the 43rd County Residents' Day Commemoration
Pyeongchang County in Gangwon Province has selected the recipients of the 2025 Pyeongchang County Citizen Awards in celebration of the 43rd County Residents' Day. The honorees were chosen for their dedication to the community, commitment to the development of county administration, and for enhancing the county's reputation based on their love for their hometown.
The county accepted nominations in four categories from July 10 to August 14. After a document review, on-site inspections, and deliberation by the Citizen Award Selection Committee, the final awardees were determined.
In the Regional Development category, the Pyeongchang-eup Prosperity Association and the Daegwallyeong-myeon Prosperity Association were selected as joint recipients. The Pyeongchang-eup Prosperity Association was recognized for its significant contributions to regional development, including its keen interest in local issues, fostering broad public consensus to advance key projects, promoting community unity through organizing and supporting various events, and improving the welfare of vulnerable groups.
The Daegwallyeong-myeon Prosperity Association was also recognized for building cooperative systems between local private enterprises and organizations, striving to establish Pyeongchang as an eco-friendly highland tourism city and a hub for mountain sports. The association was further acknowledged for its efforts in enhancing residents' welfare, addressing population decline, and creating resident-led Olympic legacies.
In the Culture and Sports category, Hwang Bonggu of Jinbu-myeon was honored. Hwang has served as president of the Jinbu-myeon Chongsong Youth Association, president of the Jinbu-myeon Sports Association, and chairperson of the Odaesancheon Festival Committee. He currently serves as president of the Pyeongchang County Ssireum Association and president of the Jinbu-myeon Prosperity Association. Hwang was recognized for his contributions to the development of local culture and sports, including attracting ssireum competitions, organizing Zumba dance competitions, and hosting the National Youth Trot Song Festival, thereby creating new growth opportunities for the region.
Filial Piety Category Kim Sunok. Provided by Pyeongchang County
The Yongpyeong-myeon Youth Association, selected in the Social Service category, was established in April 2007. As a group of young volunteers, the association has carried out various volunteer and donation activities for children, adolescents, the elderly, and other neighbors in need.
In the Filial Piety category, the couple Kim Sunok and Kim Jaesung of Daehwa-myeon were selected. Kim Sunok has devotedly cared for her mother-in-law, who has suffered from dementia for over ten years, managing her hygiene, meals, and rehabilitation with great consideration and patience. Kim Jaesung has also been exemplary in caring for his mother, as well as supporting his mother-in-law's health, household, and finances, serving as a role model in the community.
The Pyeongchang County Citizen Awards ceremony will be held on the 25th during the 48th Nosan Cultural Festival and the 43rd County Residents' Day commemoration.
