Mayor Yang Soo-hyun: "Drawing a 20-Year Blueprint for a 500,000-Population City with Citizens" Yang Soo-hyun, mayor of Yangju City, is holding a kickoff meeting for the "2040 Yangju Urban Master Plan Establishment Project," which will present the future development direction on the 16th. The meeting was attended by Yangju Mayor Yang Soo-hyun, as well as key executives including directors and department heads, who exchanged a variety of opinions on the city’s long-term development direction and urban vision.

The urban master plan is the highest-level statutory plan that presents the long-term development blueprint for Yangju City. The new plan aims to address operational issues found in the previous "2035 Yangju Urban Master Plan," strengthen the foundation for a self-sufficient city, and include strategies such as community area plans reflecting local characteristics, carbon neutrality, a smart self-sufficient city, and balanced development.

In addition, the plan will review the potential for connection with the metropolitan transportation network and establish an urban spatial structure and development strategies to help Yangju become a central city in northern Gyeonggi Province, with the goal of reaching a population of 500,000.

Mayor Yang Soo-hyun stated, "The urban master plan is not merely an administrative document, but a roadmap for designing the lives of our citizens," and added, "We will prepare a systematic and feasible plan that takes into account the goal of reaching a population of 500,000 and Yangju’s development potential."

He further emphasized, "In particular, we will form a 'citizen participation group' of about 50 to 100 people, and by holding an inaugural ceremony and separate meetings for each division, we will directly reflect citizens’ opinions to create a greater, citizen-centered Yangju."

Meanwhile, the "2040 Yangju Urban Master Plan Establishment Project" began its preliminary research in the first half of this year. In October, the citizen participation group will be officially launched to collect a wide range of opinions. Afterward, the city will go through administrative procedures such as public hearings, collecting opinions from the city council, and consulting the Urban Planning Committee, with the aim of applying for final approval from the Governor of Gyeonggi Province in the second half of next year.
