Chungcheong Region Expected to Complete Full-Cycle Bio Hub
Kim Taeheum, Governor of Chungnam Province, is delivering a greeting at the opening ceremony of the Bio Medical Comprehensive Support Center.
Chungnam Province is working to attract the National Institute of Dental Science to Cheonan, positioning the Chungcheong region as a national strategic hub that spans from basic research to industrialization.
According to the province on September 17, the Korea Testing Laboratory (KTL) Bio Medical Comprehensive Support Center opened on September 11 in the Cheonan-Asan R&D Cluster, realizing the nation's only full-cycle cooperative system that covers everything from basic research to clinical trials, demonstration, and industrialization.
This center is a national infrastructure facility that supports toxicity testing and demonstration evaluation of advanced bio-health products, such as regenerative and reconstructive medical devices and intelligent prosthetic and orthotic devices.
If the National Institute of Dental Science is established in Cheonan, the Chungcheong region will emerge as a true full-cycle medical industry innovation hub, in connection with Daedeok Research Complex (basic research), Osong Advanced Medical Complex (clinical trials and regulatory approval), and Asan Bio Medical Comprehensive Support Center (demonstration).
Cheonan City has secured a planned site of 10,094 square meters and has completed preparations for the establishment of the institute based on transportation networks and residential infrastructure.
With 12 universities, including Dankook University College of Dentistry and Hospital and Soonchunhyang University, as well as 15 industrial complexes concentrated in the area, securing research personnel and an industrial base is also easy.
In addition, Osstem Implant, the world's leading dental implant company, is investing 370 billion won in Cheonan, which is expected to further amplify the effects of dental industry development and the establishment of research institutions.
The establishment of the National Institute of Dental Science has been included in both the 20th and 21st presidential regional pledges, ensuring policy consistency as a national project.
An official from the province stated, "The National Institute of Dental Science is not an industrial facility for a specific region, but a national strategic research institution," adding, "Attracting it to Cheonan is a strategic choice that will achieve both balanced national development and enhanced global competitiveness in dental science."
