Largest-Ever Solar Power Project by a Korean Builder
2.74 Million Solar Panels Installed on a Site Nine Times the Size of Yeouido
Samsung C&T has secured a contract for Qatar's largest solar power generation project, valued at 1.46 trillion won. This is the largest solar power generation project by capacity ever undertaken by a Korean construction company.

On September 17, Samsung C&T announced that it has received the notification of award and held a signing ceremony for a solar power generation project with a total capacity of 2,000 MW, commissioned by QatarEnergy, the state-owned energy company of Qatar.
The signing ceremony was attended by O Secheol, President and CEO of Samsung C&T, Saad Al-Kaabi, Minister of Energy of Qatar and CEO of QatarEnergy, as well as other top executives and key officials from both companies.
This project will be constructed in the Dukhan area, located 80 kilometers west of Doha, the capital of Qatar. The project site alone covers 27 square kilometers, which is nine times the size of Yeouido in Seoul (2.9 square kilometers). A total of 2.74 million panels will be used. Upon its completion in 2030, the project will be able to supply electricity to 750,000 households, even considering Qatar's world-leading per capita electricity consumption.
Samsung C&T will independently handle the entire process, from the design to the construction of the solar power plant. The company plans to maximize power generation by applying solar tracking systems and installing inverters that can operate reliably in the high-temperature desert environment of the Middle East, thereby maximizing power generation efficiency.

The Dukhan solar power project is a key initiative in realizing "Qatar National Vision 2030," which aims to accelerate the country's energy transition with a focus on renewable energy. After the project plan was made public last year, the bidding process began earlier this year. Samsung C&T ultimately secured the contract by submitting the optimal proposal, leveraging its proven track record in successfully executing previous solar power projects.
Samsung C&T has previously completed solar power projects with a total capacity of 875 MW in the Ras Laffan and Mesaieed regions of Qatar. Including the Dukhan project, the company will have independently executed approximately 80% of Qatar's total solar power generation capacity.
Samsung C&T is currently carrying out large-scale solar power projects not only in Qatar but also in Guam. The company is also participating in the development and execution of multiple battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in global markets such as Australia and Japan, thereby solidifying its position in the renewable energy sector.
Kim Sungjun, Executive Vice President and Head of the ES Business Division at Samsung C&T, stated, "Based on the trust we have built through successfully executing numerous projects in Qatar, including solar power generation projects, we have further strengthened our leadership in the renewable energy EPC sector."
