Train ticket reservations for this year's Chuseok holiday, which began on September 17, have not been proceeding normally. Originally, reservations were scheduled to open to the public starting at 7 a.m. that day through a dedicated website or application.
When accessing the KORAIL homepage, users are only met with notices such as "Redirecting to the holiday reservation page" or "Failed to connect to the waiting system," and normal access is not possible. Even when access is successful, it has been reported that the number of people in the queue reaches hundreds of thousands or even millions, making the process virtually impossible to proceed smoothly.
KORAIL had initially planned to accept Chuseok holiday train ticket reservations from September 1 to 4. However, following a Mugunghwa train accident last month, the company adjusted train operations for the holiday period and postponed the reservation schedule by two weeks, beginning reservations on September 15. On September 15 and 16, reservations were first opened to people with disabilities, seniors, and national merit recipients. Chuseok holiday train tickets are available for reservation exclusively online.
A KORAIL representative stated, "As a large number of users tried to make reservations at once, there was a temporary delay and waiting time for access. After emergency measures, we are gradually processing reservations, and the exact cause is still under investigation."
