Agenda Proposals on Key Issues
The Education and Safety Committee of the Sejong City Council and the Association of School Steering Committee Chairs held a meeting on September 16.
This meeting was attended by nine people, including members of the Education and Safety Committee and Lee Kyungjin, Chair of the Association of School Steering Committee Chairs. The purpose of the meeting was to listen to the opinions of the Association on major educational issues in Sejong and to seek solutions.
The Association of School Steering Committee Chairs raised the following key issues: reviewing legal restrictions on Korean language education and adding English education; developing measures to improve safety around kindergartens (Kindergarten Subcommittee); revitalizing field trips and school excursions; creating safe routes to school in response to recent concerns about abductions and religious solicitation (Elementary Subcommittee); the need for librarian placement and support for library use during vacations; increasing cleaning staff; concerns about the high school credit system (Secondary Subcommittee); and personnel appointments for faculty and staff (Other Agenda Items).
An in-depth discussion followed. The Association of School Steering Committee Chairs requested the active interest and ongoing cooperation of the Education and Safety Committee members to resolve these issues within the school education field.
Yoon Jisung, Chair of the Education and Safety Committee, stated, "Regarding the issues discussed today, our committee members will work with the Office of Education to find reasonable solutions and support schools. Members of the School Steering Committee always play a central role in making critical decisions for schools, and each of your opinions is at the heart of education. Please feel free to share your thoughts at any time, and we will listen closely to your valuable input. I hope you will feel comfortable reaching out to the Education and Safety Committee."
