First Time in Five Years Since BTS in 2020
The original soundtrack (OST) of the Netflix animated film "K-Pop Demon Hunters" has simultaneously topped the main charts of Billboard in the United States.
On September 15 (local time), Billboard reported in a preview article that the OST track "Golden" has held the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100 for five consecutive weeks. In the same week, it also reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for the first time, achieving the rare feat of topping both the singles and albums charts simultaneously. This is the first time in five years that a K-pop OST has dominated both main charts since BTS’s album "BE" and its title track "Life Goes On" in December 2020.
"Golden" initially entered the chart at No. 81 and remained on the Hot 100 for 12 consecutive weeks, climbing to No. 23, No. 6, No. 4, No. 2, No. 2, and finally reaching No. 1. During the latest tracking period, the song recorded 33.8 million streams, 26.3 million radio audience impressions, and 8,000 sales. Additionally, it has held the No. 1 spot on the Streaming Songs chart for eight weeks, ranked No. 20 on the Radio Songs chart, and No. 3 on the Digital Song Sales chart.
Other OST tracks-"Your Idol" at No. 4, "Soda Pop" at No. 5, and "How It's Done" at No. 8-also entered the Top 10, resulting in a total of four songs from the soundtrack charting in the Top 10.
"K-Pop Demon Hunters" tells the story of Huntress, a K-pop girl group who are also exorcists, and the boy group Demon Lion Boys as they confront evil forces to save the world and discover their true selves. The film currently holds the all-time No. 1 spot in Netflix’s combined film and TV rankings.
