Total Project Cost of 130.2 Billion Won Invested
Gumi National Industrial Complex Accelerates Eco-Friendly Transformation
Kang Myunggu, Member of the National Assembly (Gumi City B, Gyeongbuk), announced on September 16 that Gumi City has been finally selected for the "Carbon Neutral Industrial Complex Model Establishment Project" public contest.
The Carbon Neutral Industrial Complex Model Establishment Project is a large-scale initiative that will invest a total of 130.2 billion won (15 billion won from the provincial government, 35 billion won from Gumi City, 30.2 billion won in private investment, and 50 billion won in national funding) in the Gumi National Industrial Complex (Industrial Complexes 1 to 5) over five years, from 2025 to 2029.
The main components of the project include: ▲ construction of a 30MW solar power generation facility ▲ introduction of a 50MWh-class energy storage system (ESS) and an intelligent power trading system ▲ creation of an industrial ecosystem for recycling used batteries ▲ support for improving the energy environment within the industrial complex.
Through this project, the Gumi National Industrial Complex is expected to achieve direct supply of renewable energy and maximize energy efficiency, accelerating its transformation into a carbon-neutral and eco-friendly industrial complex.
Kang Myunggu, Member of the National Assembly, commented on the selection, stating, "I sincerely welcome the designation of Gumi National Industrial Complex as the representative carbon-neutral model in Korea," adding, "This achievement once again proves that Gumi is the heart of Korea's industry and a key hub for future energy transition."
He continued, "This project goes beyond simple facility expansion; it is a major transformation initiative to convert the entire industrial complex into an eco-friendly and smart complex. Not only will it strengthen the competitiveness of local businesses, but it will also serve as an opportunity for Gumi to establish itself as a national carbon-neutral model city. As a member of the National Assembly, I will do my utmost to ensure that the government, local authorities, and companies can work together to support a new leap forward for Gumi and Korea's industry."
