Korea University of Technology and Education announced on the 16th that it has been finally selected for national research projects promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Ministry of Education, securing a total research grant of 1.42 billion won.

Additionally, both professors and graduate students were named as researchers, earning recognition for both research capabilities and talent development achievements.

According to Korea University of Technology and Education, this selection was made for the '2025 Second Half Individual Basic Research' and 'Science and Engineering Academic Research Infrastructure Establishment' projects.

The university has laid the foundation for creative research and talent development in new industries through projects that encompass both basic and applied research.

In the Individual Basic Research (Mid-Career Research) category, four professors were selected: Professor Kim Jongpal (Department of Mechatronics Engineering, development of neural regeneration monitoring circuits); Professor Jang Jaeyoung (Department of Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering, development of an electronic medicine platform for degenerative brain diseases); Professor Choi Kangsun (Department of Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering, development of AI analysis technology for ancient printing cultural heritage characters); and Professor Kim Seokjun (Department of Energy, New Materials and Chemical Engineering, development of ultra-high energy density secondary battery anodes).

Each researcher will receive 180 million won in research funding over three years.

Professor Park Jungtae (Department of Liberal Arts) was also selected for the Ministry of Education's Glocal R&D Support Project and will conduct research worth 420 million won over three years.

In addition, eight graduate students were selected for the 'Doctoral Student Research Encouragement Grant Program' under the Science and Engineering Academic Research Infrastructure Establishment project, receiving a total of 260 million won in support.

The graduate students, belonging to the departments of Energy, New Materials and Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Design and Architectural Engineering, will participate in future convergence research in fields such as new materials, IoT, big data, VR, and architectural engineering. The fact that professors and students achieved results together is considered especially meaningful.

President Yoo Gilsang stated, "This achievement is the result of the passion of both researchers and students," adding, "We will continue to lead regional and national development by producing innovative research outcomes."
