Ministry of Science and ICT Launches Investigation into Hacker Claims of 'SKT Customer Information Sale'

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that it has launched an investigation, including on-site inspections, in response to claims by an international hacking organization regarding the theft and sale of SK Telecom customer information.

On September 16, the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency confirmed the claims that an international hacking group had stolen and was selling SK Telecom's customer data. They requested related materials from SK Telecom and plan to verify the facts through on-site inspections and other measures.

A representative from the Ministry of Science and ICT stated, "With the recent increase in security breaches, public anxiety is rising," adding, "We will promptly verify the facts regarding these claims and transparently disclose the results to the public."
