Seo-gu Council Member Kim Sooyoung Proposes Construction of Nongseong National Sports Center

Concerns Raised Over Use of Land Surrounding the Former Nongseong 2-dong Public Complex Office
Calls for Investigation Into Abuse of Power and Corruption at Seo-gu Welfare Center for the Disabled

On September 16, during the 333rd extraordinary session, Gwangju Seo-gu Council Member Kim Sooyoung delivered a five-minute free speech addressing topics such as the construction of the Nongseong National Sports Center (utilizing the land surrounding the Nongseong 2-dong Public Complex Office, restoration of the Deokheung Park Golf Course after flood damage, and the misconduct incident at the Seo-gu Welfare Center for the Disabled).

Assemblywoman Kim first proposed building the Nongseong National Sports Center in the areas underserved by sports facilities (Nongseong 1-dong, Nongseong 2-dong, Hwajeong 1-dong, Hwajeong 2-dong, Yang-dong, and Yang 3-dong), specifically on the sites of the Nongseong 2-dong Administrative Welfare Center, Nongseong Culture House, and the local food market.

She also stated, "The 'Smart Hub Center,' which was part of the second phase in the 2021 public complex office plan, shows no signs of progress," adding, "I have doubts about the Seo-gu District Office's work implementation."

Additionally, Assemblywoman Kim said, "Although Section B of the Deokheung Park Golf Course was completed and held its opening ceremony in June, it is unfortunate that residents still cannot use it. In other districts of Gwangju that suffered even greater damage, restoration has already been completed and the facilities are in use. However, in Seo-gu, the district has only applied for a budget from the city and plans to begin restoration work between March and August 2026. I propose that the restoration project for the park golf course be expedited within this year."

Finally, Assemblywoman Kim concluded her remarks by calling for a thorough investigation and preventive measures regarding the abuse of power and corruption at the Seo-gu Welfare Center for the Disabled.
