Emphasizing Public-Private Cooperation in Medical Data, AI, and Genomics
'APEC Healthcare Roadmap' to Be Unveiled in Busan Next Month
Kolon Group announced on the 16th that Vice Chairman Lee Kyuho attended the plenary session of the '2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Health and Economic Senior Officials Meeting (HLMHE)' held at the Shilla Hotel in Seoul for two days starting on the 15th, where he discussed cooperation strategies in the biohealthcare sector.
According to the group, Vice Chairman Lee, in his capacity as Chair of the Biohealthcare Working Group (BHWG) under the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC), presented the group’s achievements and emphasized the importance of sharing and governing medical data, applying AI and genomics, and the necessity of public-private cooperation. He also presided over a luncheon hosted by ABAC, where he discussed healthcare innovation strategies with global experts.

This year marks the 15th HLMHE, held under the theme 'Innovation, Connection, Prosperity: Realizing a Healthy and Smart Aging Society.' The event was attended by more than 480 participants, including health ministers and vice ministers from 21 APEC member economies, officials from international organizations such as the WHO, OECD, and ADB, as well as business leaders.
The BHWG has discussed four main agendas: biotech innovation, connecting health networks, reducing health disparities, and fostering public-private partnerships. To date, it has proposed 11 projects. At the upcoming ABAC meeting in Busan next month, the 'APEC Healthcare Roadmap' is scheduled to be released.
Vice Chairman Lee stated, "The secondary use of health data and AI-based medical innovation require not only government involvement but also essential private sector cooperation," adding, "By building an inclusive system together, both the public and private sectors can help ensure the continued prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region."
Kolon Group is currently conducting Phase 3 clinical trials for TG-C, a cell and gene therapy for osteoarthritis. The company is continuing its investment in the biohealth sector with the goal of applying for U.S. FDA approval in 2027.
