Establishing a Bridgehead for ASEAN Economic Cooperation
"Benchmarking BJFEZ Development and Operations"
Why did the Philippine economic delegation visit the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone?
The Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority (BJFEZ, Commissioner Park Sungho) announced that a business delegation led by the presidents of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and the Korea-Philippines Economic Council (PHILKOREC) made an official visit to BJFEZ on September 16. This visit was arranged with the recommendation and cooperation of the Embassy of the Philippines in Korea.
The delegation included over 30 business leaders representing the Philippine business community, including PCCI President Enunina V. Mangio and PHILKOREC President Fabian Delos Santos. PHILKOREC is a private, non-profit economic council under the PCCI, and this delegation was a private economic mission led by the two organizations.
On the morning of the visit, the delegation toured the BJFEZ PR Center, where they received a briefing on key strategic industries and investment advantages, followed by a Q&A session. They then visited Panasia, a leading company in eco-friendly technology and shipbuilding, to see the region's infrastructure and technological capabilities firsthand.
Park Sungho, Commissioner of BJFEZ, stated, "This visit served as an important opportunity to showcase BJFEZ's attractive investment environment to the Philippine business community and to strengthen ties with the ASEAN market. The strengths of BJFEZ, such as smart logistics and the eco-friendly shipbuilding industry, will combine with the growth drivers of the Philippines to create mutually beneficial cooperation."
A representative of the Philippine delegation commented, "We were deeply impressed by the dynamic industrial ecosystem of the Busan and Gyeongnam regions and the development of BJFEZ. Based on the eco-friendly technologies and competitiveness in shipbuilding we observed during this visit, we will seek concrete models for cooperation."
BJFEZ plans to use this visit as an opportunity to expand exchanges with potential investor countries, including ASEAN nations, and to advance as a business hub in Northeast Asia.
