On September 16, Jeong Cheongrae, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated, "It may not be possible to implement 100% of the proposals coming out of the Special Committee for Honam Development exactly as suggested, but I will do my best, considering myself a member of the Honam Special Committee, so that we can be recognized for providing an opportunity for Honam to advance."

At the first meeting of the Democratic Party's Special Committee for Honam Development held in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, Jeong said, "This special committee was not created to simply dissolve without any results, but to actually achieve tangible outcomes and bear fruit. I will take the lead and work hard for the people of Honam." He added, "There are various directions for development being discussed in Honam, such as the issue of establishing a national medical school and the vigorous promotion of the energy highway and renewable energy industry base by the Lee Jaemyung administration. The Democratic Party believes that establishing appropriate elements tailored to Honam's needs is the way to achieve Honam's development."

Seo Samsuk, who chairs the Democratic Party's Honam Special Committee, commented on the significance of the first meeting: "I believe this is the moment when the aspirations and long-held wishes of 5 million people in Honam are being discussed here, giving hope to the people of Honam and marking the first step in a great transformation for the region, grounded in the strong determination and execution of the new Lee Jaemyung administration."
