After making this statement in the Oval Office, President Trump signed a presidential memorandum directing the formation of the "Memphis Safety Task Force."

Since the start of President Trump's second term on January 20, Memphis has become the third U.S. city, after Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., to see the deployment of the National Guard.

President Trump stated, "This (safety) is extremely important due to the crime problems occurring not only in Memphis but also in numerous cities," adding, "We will address each city step by step, just as we did in Washington."

He also emphasized, "This task force will replicate the outstanding results achieved here in Washington," and added, "We are now preparing to deploy a large-scale force."

President Trump explained that, in addition to the National Guard, federal agencies and organizations such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) will also participate in the Memphis operation.

This move is seen as a prelude to a large-scale crackdown on crime and illegal immigrants in Memphis.

President Trump stated that after Memphis, "the next city will probably be Chicago" for National Guard deployment.

President Trump has repeatedly emphasized the need to deploy the National Guard in Chicago due to its severe crime situation. However, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, both Democrats, are strongly opposed. Chicago is the political hometown of former President Obama and a traditional Democratic stronghold.
